Christ Follower / Husband / Dad / Technician / Businessman
Since my introduction to dental technology in 1965, I have had the opportunity to participate in many facets of the profession. I have been a denture technician, a CDT, a sole proprietor of a one-man denture lab, the head of a five-person denture department, a salesman, a regional marketing manager for a laboratory "chain", a trouble shooter for a laboratory corporation, a crown and bridge technician, and a general partner (now sole owner) of a multi-person fixed restorative laboratory. I also have a growing "home business" that consists of productivity, communication, operational systems and marketing services for dental laboratories.
The Daily Bite
If your lab is bursting at the seams, but you can't afford a larger facility, consider sharing a building with another lab. "I'm paying the same amount of rent as before, but we've gained about 40% in terms of common areas, like the kitchen, dining area and an extra bathroom, " says Brad White, CDT, Perdue Dental Laboratory, Sarasota, FL.
