Hi guys. I am tired of shipping out my models to milling centers and waiting for them to return, only to find out the margins are poor. I want to have the luxury of at least a digital scanner to make my zirconia turnaround faster, but I'm worried about the cost versus profitablity. There are a couple...See more

Jeff, I understand the dilemma. May I recommend a milling lab referred to me by a really high end ceramist whose judgement I trust...bear in mind... I have not sent a sample case to yet...but will in this next week. I'm happy to go first and let you know. Maybe that will buy you more time? 3D Milling Center @ 425-227-4333 or 877-878-3343. Good luck. M-

Hi Jeff, we have had the nobel scanner for 3 years now and love the copings we get back from their mill center. we receive them on the 2nd day after scan and design. Think they are going to start milling full contour crowns soon. Great Company to work with, although a closed system well worth the investment.

Jeff, we have a closed system Sirona where we have all the control but that's with the luxury of milling and sintering. I would advise in looking to an open system where you will be able to do more than just copings. I understand it's a huge commitment, I get the feeling that you will get the accounts that prescribe zr. (it takes money to make money). I admire the logic. I outsource my full contour...See more

If I had the means, I would get a 3Shape scanner and a Roland mill. Not only can you mill precision zirconia, but you can mill wax to either press emax or cast pfm frameworks. You would have all the control you needed to give the product you want in a reasonable timeframe.

It would be "nice" to have a milling unit but why spend the cash when you can get some great copings from places like Nobel, Dale and CMC. We have the inlab compact milling unit and don't use it. granted the milling units today are much better than mine but i dont think they compare to the big boys.

Does anyone have any or know of any technical articles that provide help in taking quad impressions for bridges that will still help to ensure proper articulation? I have a client that just can't take a good full arch impression. They are totally uncomfortable with it and adamant about refusing to...See more

Before the patient is frozen, take a bite reg from the opposing quads. Do preps, take the impression. Now take the bite reg of preps, and use the opposing bite reg to "guide" the jaw in the right bite. This will avoid the patients effort under anesthetic to "find" his bite. Make sure you trim the first bite reg under cuts, and try it out in the mouth for articulation prior to anesthetics. As long as...See more

Jeff ,I would be ok with an impression that captured both canines. It otherwise is impossible to capture working and non working movement and without that you won't be able to create proper tooth form.
