Boston-based Tufts University School of Dental Medicine's Postgraduate Prosthodontics Division is offering an advanced level of education in dental technology and related research to dental technologists who desire higher education in areas such as advanced dental ceramics, implantology, attachments and milling techniques.
Directed by Hiroshi Hirayama, DDS, DMD, MS, FACP, the Advanced Dental Technology and Research program offers technicians the opportunity to interact with Postgraduate Prosthodontics Residents and observe treatments and outcomes of clinical patients throughout the entire restorative process. Technicians can attend lectures and seminars offered by the Postgraduate Prosthodontics program, thus gaining a mutual understanding of comprehensive treatment planning and improving communication between technicians and dentists.
The full-time program length is 24 months, or it can be completed on a part-time basis over a longer period. The complete program consists of an equivalent length of 6 months of preclinical work, 18 months of advanced technical education, clinical case work, and research in the field of prosthodontics and biomaterials. If the student requires more advanced training, the program can be extended for additional sessions; this extension would be desirable for those who are interested in teaching and/or an administrative position in the area of dental technology.
A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent level of education and/or training is required for admission to the program. Graduates will be awarded a Certificate of Completion in Advanced Dental Technology and Master's Degree.
