LAB DAY Chicago was the official North American launch of Straumann CARES Visual 7.0. This is the first Straumann system built with Dental Wings Open Software (DWOS™) as the core software, the result of a partnership between the two companies formed last year.
"This partnership improves the customer experience and means labs can now invest in a CAD/CAM system without the fear of being locked in to a single manufacturer. This is a completely open system that offers users the flexibility to fabricate CAD/CAM restorations through Straumann's validated workflow or through an external workflow," explains Dr. Sandro Matter, Executive Vice President of Straumann's Prosthetics Business Unit.
For both workflow options, the user scans and designs with the Straumann CARES Scan CS2 scanner and Straumann CARES Visual software. It features a wide range of editing tools, simultaneous design of lower and upper jaw, virtual articulator, mirroring function and automatic proposal and covers indications from single copings to full-span bridges.
If you opt to use Straumann's validated workflow, the software includes pre-installed parameter settings and you have access to the company's complete range of materials--titanium, cobalt-chromium, zirconium dioxide and PMMA--and restoration options including Straumann CARES abutments, dolder bars, screw-retained bridges, crowns and bridges. The restorations are milled at Straumann's milling center and come with an up-to-10-year limited warranty. Or, you can choose the external workflow and send the .stl file to any milling center.
Straumann's technical support team is staffed with CDTs and, in addition to phone support, the staff members can remotely access your computer if you need assistance or troubleshooting. The company sponsors numerous three-day training sessions around the country for customers upon purchase of the system.
Straumann CARES Visual 7.0 is being rolled out to customers in North America and Europe. The system is available as an upgrade to customers with CARES Scan CS2 scanners and has been installed in all Straumann CARES systems since the beginning of March.
