Three years ago, CAP (formerly Custom Automated Prosthetics) began developing software to make its milling center as efficient as possible. Its goal: to automate many of the steps between each process of the CAD/CAM workflow and eliminate duplicate data entry into their lab management software and again in the scanning department.
The result: CAPZilla, a workflow automation platform that streamlines many functions within the digital fabrication process. For example:
A barcode scan of the work ticket at the model and die scan station adds all essential information into all the appropriate data fields, saving time and eliminating human error at this step.
Once scanned, a designer can scan the work ticket or select the case in the CAPZilla case overview list. The prescription and customer design preferences are displayed and then the order is opened in 3Shape Designer. After the design is complete, CAPZilla automatically moves the case to milling or prompts the designer to produce...LMT Communications, Inc. · October 15 at 2:52 pm
Launched as a milling center at LAB DAY Chicago 2010, Custom Automated Prosthetics (CAP) has expanded rapidly in the past five years. In addition to milling services, it now distributes a variety of digital equipment and materials and has recently entered into several new distribution agreements, further expanding its product line.
Most recently, CAP has started distributing a significant array of GC laboratory products; this is CAP’s latest foray into offering non-digital laboratory products. Also, since January, CAP has been Amann Girrbach (AG)’s premier partner in North America. Although not the exclusive distributor of AG products, CAP is the only distributor selling the complete line of AG equipment, material and tools, as well as enhancing training and customer support.
Among the products CAP showcased at the show:
The new CAP Z Complete, a 1,100-MPa, highly translucent zirconia, similar to CAP FZ. It comes in white discs with a complete green state coloring system. This...

Custom Automated Prosthetics (CAP) introduced Multi FZ, a multi-layered zirconia that makes it possible to achieve an esthetic, multi-colored, monolithic, high-strength (1,100MPa flexural strength), milled full contour zirconia restoration without dipping or green-state shading. The 98-mm discs mimic natural dentition with cervical, body and enamel shading and a “blend zone” at each shade interface. For four- or five-axis milling machines, the discs are competitively priced and come in three different colors and white in order to match 16 VITA shades and bleach shades. CAP Multi FZ is also available through CAP’s milling center; simply send your models or .stl files.
Also at LAB DAY, CAP was given the Best Reseller 2013 award from CIMSystem SL for the second consecutive year.
