Dan Elfring, MBA, CDT, TE
Lab TechnicianI joined the Air Force in 1978 and received my laboratory training in the Air Force. I had many great assignments culminating my 28 year career as the most senior lab technician in the Air Force. As many...See more know, we did mostly fixed work in the Air Force, consequently I did not make many dentures. After I retired, I ended up working as an inhouse technician for a Prosthodontist doing removable work, specializing in implants. I have always loved the laboratory career field, but became even more passionate when I started making dentures. I have met some superb people in this field who have helped me grow, which only fuels my passion for making even better prostheses. Currently, I'm enjoying the time of my life doing what I do and loving every day of it. I only wish the same for you.

Today's progressive technician is a valuable part of the dental team and should be involved in the case design...See more process. Tom Bormes identifies the information needed by the technician and why it's needed to provide case design alternatives and options to the dentist. Learn how to request the necessary information and tools, such as mounted and articulated models, patient requirements, length and diameter of implants, overall quality of bone, patient dexterity, patient hygiene habits, muscular efficiency, para-functional habits and general health. The information helps you provide multiple options to the patient; select the correct bar, stud or magnetic connector; and recommend a tissue- or abutment-supported prosthesis.
