I attended a conference last week with some colleagues and throughout different presentations, I found myself writing down acronyms and new words and realized that even at the semi-young age of 33, I am old! I'm sure that I use words or phrases from time to time that throw my parents off for a beat, but last week, I was the one pulling out my phone to GTS (google that stuff).
My favorite word of the week ended up being a favorite for a few of us, so that's why I'm using it today. The word: Freemium. According to wikipedia, this word is associated with a pricing strategy in which some products and/or services are free, but others have a premium attached.
I would like to associate this word with our 3Shape Lab Scanners. Currently, we sell 4 different series (D500, D700/710, D800/810 and D900/D900L) and yes, these babies have quite a price tag on them. But here's the value... once you have purchased a scanner from Whip Mix, you get:

Straumann reported stable net revenues of CHF 519 million (-1% in local currencies) in the first nine-months of 2012. North America was the key driver throughout accompanied by strong growth in China and Latin America. However, these solid performances were not enough to compensate for sluggish sales elsewhere - particularly in Europe, where the tooth replacement market has suffered from further deterioration in the economic environment. In the third quarter, sales in local currencies were generally slower with the exception of the 'Rest of the World' region. As a result, Group net revenue for the quarter was 2% off the prior year level. In Swiss francs, however, the top line grew 4%, lifted by positive currency effects. In addition to the business results, the Group announced further initiatives in its strategy for digital dentistry. Straumann plans to strengthen its collaboration with Dental Wings by transferring its software development teams and increasing its stake in Dental Wings...
