• Having an extremely busy week being connected to educational events, I just want to motivate those, possibly on the fence about marketing their lab this way; My real 'strength' is networking with 10-20 speakers who will talk and give programs FREE to any dentist group I arrange meetings with.
Most labs have no idea how many study groups are out there seraching for speakers, also its good to get approved for giving out credits.

  • It is strongly advocated by Dr Frank Spear, etc not to glaze full contour zirconia crowns but to simply polish them, as studies have shown there is a LOT more wear to the opposing enamel on glazed zirconia crowns, anyone have some thoughts/experience in this??? — tagged All-Ceramic Restorations

Lossof a great lab owner/founder here in NJ: Yesterday Sam Fields, founder of Sam Fields Dental Lab passed away. He is father of owners Bob & Rick Fields. Sam was a great inspiration to me countless(!) years ago when he introduced me to the 'DLC' conferences that he got me into (was tough traveling to places like Cancun & Haaii!) and introduced me to the innovative laboratory giants of the industry, where I learned much from and gained much ambition & insights from.
Sam was a great person & leader, and all my sympathies go to his family & friends.

  • Last week our lab sponsored Dr Howard Farran (CEO of dentaltown.com) to over 100 dentists and 14 vendors exhibiting; It was ,as usual with Dr Farran, a raving success. Howard is a staright forward power-information type of guy that tells it like it is,and teaches the dentists how to succeed in a challenging economy.

The point is that it is events like these that can build your laboratory. Is it for everyone,of course not. But even if you do not 'want to' or 'cannot' get in front of a group to speak, let alone simply make an informercial and introduce your speaker, then all is not lost: simply...See more

  • Is there a website or directory to go to that compares all the open archetecture scanners (&milling machines if available) along with prices???
And what feedback does anyone have with open architecture scanners(besides the #1 3-shape)???? thanks! — tagged Scanners

Just a question...I have found the cost of scanning certainly much higher than someone who packs up & ships a case, not to say that packing/shipping is also a very important job/aspect of the business, However, quite often I need a technically skilled person who knows margins, etc not to even mention bridges, when scanning,so I think the labor of someone who scans is definitely much higher than a packer/shipper clerk/staff.

  • Just like most of you, I believe in getting high value for my well spent dollars, as a matter of fact....that's exactly what our customers are thinking every minute, particularly in today's challenging economy, so...

    1. Choose TOP notch speakers for your events(and I will be listing my favorites of course): obviously ask your speakers which companies or vendors they might mention or who has supported them before, contact those companies and 'partner' with them, meaning charge them a small 'fee' for having a display table at your event to help defray the costs.

Here's a crazy question.....for those labs, let's say that have 10+ techs, 100+ customers, a fairly fast paced business.....what time in the mroning would you have your staff(office) start answering the phones (as opposed to voicemail, etc), and have you ever had any issues over that(such as small kids, can't make it in,etc)?

Just sharing: My VERY best marketing tool overall: continuing ed programs(either sponsored directly or teamed up with specialists for their referring GP's and also study clubs), 2nd best is our terrific telemarketing firm :MarkerReach(marketreach.biz)(an LMT advertiser too!) who makes appointments to dentists for me to go to:extremely effective!
Prediction: 2012 will bring us tons of attention through our upcoming website & seo work via internet.

Any tips/suggestions,etc on open-archecture scanners,we have been using the 3-shape(700 I believe) for 4 months, loved it(on a trial basis) ,also any suggestions on 3-shape distributors who would take another scanner as a trade-in???

I would LOVE to get some feedback, especially from those labs with 10+ employees on your 'cellphone' policy in reference to employees: having them, using them, people calling, texting, etc, thank you in advance!

LMT is always right on target with their latest articles on dentist-technician teamwork relations and the terrific info on incentives for clients to pay early(or earlier) nad loyalty rewards.
As soon as I get some cases pics uploaded, I will share the incredible milled-in bar cases we have been fabricating for All on 4 (or 5 or 6) and the huge partnering we have with the GP's and the surgeons promoting these cases.
This Thanksgiving weekend is the first in the past 20 plus years our lab has decided to 'not' participate in the Greater NY Meeting; Although it is relatively inexpensive for us to...See more

Our lab has focused for, well, a long time(25+yrs) on NJ (with a few from surrounding states) very heavily, being able to serve the close areas real well; Now we are adding some out of state marketing using the internet and postcards(sending 2000/month), for labs doing business out of state, what advice can you give as to what works, what doesn't,etc and any tips/advice for postcard mailings, etc?? Locally we do tons of continung ed/networking with stidy clubs etc and have been very successful with that,be glad to share any & all tips/advice on that upon request.

We are starting to love our 3 shape scanner we now have in our lab (doesn't hurt to have a great guy & tech working in our lab: Mark Walter who is doing our scanning, etc) and excited to start promoting like crazy anything and everything we can scan.
