My Professional Journey...
I suppose weâve all asked ourselves, at one time or another, how we ended...See more up where we are today. Iâve often pondered by what means I began with a psychology degree and ended with a CDT? When all of my scholastic peers were heads of major corporations and huge philanthropists, with hospital wings and parks named after them, their smiling polished faces adorning the social pages of the âNashville Neighborâ, I was busy carving thick wax blocks into little green bicuspids, sculpting plaster poo creatures into bench adornments and polishing gold rings into another nieceâs Christmas gift.
My migration to the plaster bench was as insidious and subtle as the brush of blue on the incisal edge of a central lateral. The word âlaboratoryâ conjured up images in my mind of a pristine building with scurrying cerebral employees in bright white coats titrating chemicals from beakers to test tubes while discovering the cures for potential pandemics, but this lab had no semblance of the propriety and regality that I thought the word deserved. With plaster barnacled around the sink faucets, green wax splatters encircling the limping and now retired computer chair and a fine layer of white dust flocking all of the amenable surfaces, the lab was inside of a standalone shed in my friendâs back yard, dignified only enough to house a rusted out riding mower and a few bulky holiday decorations. And so began my journey
