Sorry, this Droid ! Tells me his ten year old son designs crowns on the system. This makes me wonder if my years of experience matter. There sure are plenty of jobs for denture techs out there and few C&B. I would like to stay in this line of work for many more years to come. Just not sure what direction to take.

Kimberly, probably the best way is to just sit in on as many programs as you can attend, and read all the journals. You might also want to join forums like the Facebook Cerec InLab forum, the Dental Lab Network and the IDF. You can pick up a lot there as well. As one who has worked with zirconia fabrication before, my suggestions is to outsource that product to somewhere else. It's very labor intensive for a small lab. The product is milled between 24 to 27% larger in the "green" state, you carefully have to "clean things up" and smooth things, sometimes pre colored having a stain soak into it, then it has to be sintered over night or at...See more -

You can gain experience in CAD/CAM places from a lot of companies, Vident being one of them offering training on the Cerec In-Lab system which is one the most versatile system for small labs and it would give you the opportunity to interact with your Cerec doctors. Hi Kimberly I would suggest to look into Zircon Zahn system they have a scanner that does not require a lot of training and it's designed by a very good dental technicians mind set ,Enrico Steiger.I'm curently working with this scanner.Cerec is way too costly to buy,lease and mantain.

With as many options as there are, there is a perfect one for each lab given its niche, which needs to be decided on your terms, your current as well as future business models. Sjaan, I'm sorry I haven't kept up with this topic. You and Kimberly, and anyone else who would like to come spend a day doing digital dentistry is welcome to come here as I mentioned above. many of the things you mentioned as undesirable about zirconia milling are actually the things i find MOST desirable! I can use apprentice technicians or unskilled labor to do menial tasks while freeing up my CDT's...See more

Well, maybe I'm behind the curve, but I don't really see where mobile apps are going to affect the way we do business other than as a remote access to the software on the laboratory desktop, ie, designs, customer data and scheduling information.
