How to Fabricate Winning Dentures Using Idiosyncratic Dentate Characterization

The August 2015 DTG Symposium in Provo, UT, featured the first-ever World Mixed Dental Arts Competition (see Strut Your Stuff below for more details).

In a timed, single-elimination event with three heats, the final two contestants in the removable division went head to head as they set a complete maxillary arch in wax for a live patient.

Here, the winner, Arian Deutsch, CDT, DTG, Owner, Deutsch Dental Arts in Surprise, AZ, offers a step-by-step look at his time-efficient, idiosyncratic dentate characterization technique used for his winning entry shown here:

 

The Technique 

For simplicity, Deutsch demonstrates his technique on a maxillary central incisor. He’s using GC Livdent Grace Anatomical teeth and GC Optiglaze Color to create extremely natural-looking dentures with decalcifications, amalgam tattoos and abfractions.

Step 1

“Age” and modify the central using a variety of carbide tools and a handpiece. 

 

Step 2

Air abrade the Livdent Grace tooth (on the left) with aluminum oxide at 2 bar pressure (right).
